| Artist Statement | Art is a never-ending relationship, no matter what life brings it will always be there. Being a young artist, college student and coming from a small town like Planada has been a challenge. A challenge I appreciate because it brings great opportunities and recognitions. In spring 2006, my work was chosen for the congressional Art Competition and was displayed at the U.S. Capital. I had the opportunity in 2005 to attend the California State Summer School for the Arts were I gain the confidence not to give up and valuable skills to improve my work. I have won Best of Show 3 years in a row at the Merced County Fair and while I was attending CSU Stanislaus in 2006, I had a couple of pieces published for a book and journal. I had work displayed with other local artist at the Turlock City Gallery and at the UC Merced library in 2008. October 2009 I was Artist of the Month for the Merced Art Hop and had an article in the first issue of The D magazine. I took the challenge to join the US Army late 2009, it was an experience like no other it helped me mature, learn, and realize how strong I can be. But like they say “things happen for a reason”. So now I’m back ready to paint and be a artist living one day at a time. |
